Joey Moi Scores Record-Breaking 42nd Week at No. 1 on Country Producers Chart

2/25/2021

Joey Moi takes the lead for the most weeks spent at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Producers chart (dated Feb. 27), as he records his 42nd week at the summit. He passes Dann Huff for the most time on top since the chart began in June 2019.

The veteran producer, songwriter and engineer leads the list on the strength of 13 production credits on the latest Hot Country Songs chart. Twelve are via Morgan Wallen‘s Dangerous: The Double Album, which logs a sixth week at No. 1on the Billboard 200.

Leading the way among Moi’s haul on Hot Country Songs, Wallen’s “Wasted on You” ranks at No. 11, after it launched at No. 1. Moi co-produced the track with Jacob Durrett; Of Moi’s 13 production credits on the chart, he co-produced two others, both by Wallen: “Warning,” with Charlie Handsome (No. 29), and “Your Bartender,” with Matt Dragstrem (No. 50).

Dating to the survey’s origin, there have been six producers who have topped the chart: Moi (42 weeks), Hu! (41), Scott Mo!att (three), Jay Joyce (two) and Zach Crowell and Dan + Shay’s Dan Smyers (one each). On Country Songwriters, Taylor Swift returns to No. 1 for a second week on top, thanks to her new re-recording of “Love Story (Taylor’s Version).”
The track soars in at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs, marking her eighth leader and “rst since “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” in 2012-2013. (Her original “Love Story” spent two weeks at No. 1 in November 2008.)

Swift “rst ruled the Country Writers chart dated Dec. 26, then fueled by her songs “No Body, No Crime” featuring Haim, and “Betty.” Those two tracks are from her 2020 LPs Evermore and Folklore, respectively. The new version of “Love Story” is from her forthcoming re-recording of her 2008 album Fearless, to be titled Fearless (Taylor’s Version). (Re- recordings of older songs or albums are treated separately from their originals, with independent chart histories for each version.)

The weekly Country Songwriters and Country Producers charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot Country Songs chart. As with Billboard’s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally (and the dividing of points will lead to occasional ties on rankings).
